Chairman's Blog

  Hi everyone

Mary and I have just returned from 5 days on the Isle of Wight. Two days were spent at the Classic Car Shows, Saturday at Newport and Sunday on the sea front at Ryde. On the Saturday evening after we got back from Newport we were sitting in the caravan when I heard the sound of drooning engines. We all went outside to see the amazing sight of a Spitfire and Hurricane flying across the Solent in formation with wing tips no more than a few feet apart. They then did fifteen minutes of aerobatics including rolls and turns and flying upside down. They then turned back got into formation again and fly back off towards Portsmouth. We gathered it was part of a display for the Little Britain Festival. The sound of those Merlin engines  was really thrilling. I can imagine that anyone who witnessed the Battle of Britain would have had memories come flooding back from this sight and sound.
